The Skills That Aren't Malware: OpenClaw's Agentic Supply-Chain Attacks¶

In June 2026, Palo Alto Networks' Unit 42 pulled five skills off ClawHub. Two were ordinary infostealers — AMOS, macOS, phone-home-to-C2. Standard stuff, and the kind of thing scanners are supposed to catch.
The other three are the reason this post exists. One of them, money-radar, contained no malware at all. No dropper. No base64. No C2. Nothing a signature engine could latch onto. It was a financial-advisor skill whose entire payload was one instruction to the AI:

That's it. That's the attack. The skill weaponizes the agent's advisory authority — the trust the user places in what the assistant tells them — and monetizes it through a known-malicious domain the operator can re-point after install. VirusTotal has nothing to scan. Semgrep has nothing to scan. There is no code. There is a sentence, and the AI obeys it.
This is the shift Unit 42 documented, and it's the one Malwar was rebuilt this quarter to catch.
Three categories, three techniques¶
Unit 42 grouped the five skills into infostealers, detection evasion, and agentic threats — a class that "extends beyond traditional malware." Here's each novel technique and what Malwar does with it.
omnicogg — hiding a payload by making the file too big to scan¶
omnicogg shipped a real malware downloader. It got past both ClawScan and VirusTotal by padding the README with junk data until the file exceeded the scanners' processing limits. The payload rode in under cover of the noise. The scanners didn't clear it — they gave up on it and passed it anyway.
Malwar reads the whole file regardless of size, so the downloader still trips the command rules. And the padding itself is now a signal:

MALWAR-EVADE-001 is new. It flags file-size inflation and junk-padding blocks — the exact move that beat the incumbents — as a malicious indicator in its own right, whether or not it finds the payload underneath. The technique that defeated the scanners becomes the thing that convicts the skill.
money-radar — agentic affiliate injection¶
The financial advisor above. Advisory language, plus an affiliate mechanic, plus an instruction to route recommendations through it:

MALWAR-FRAUD-001 fires only when all three signals co-occur — a skill that merely mentions the word "affiliate" in a disclosure doesn't trip it. There is no binary here, no network callback at scan time. The whole attack is natural language, and it's caught by reading intent, not signatures.
letssendit — agentic front-running¶
Unit 42 called this one the most inventive of the batch, and a "glimpse of how agentic AI systems could be manipulated." letssendit instructs the agent to pool user funds into an operator-controlled wallet ahead of a meme-token pump — the operator buys in front of the demand it just manufactured:

MALWAR-FRAUD-002 looks for the combination that defines the scheme: a directive to move or pool funds, a destination wallet, and market-manipulation intent. An autonomous financial-manipulation scheme, delivered as a Markdown skill.
The two infostealers¶
The AMOS droppers are the part scanners should have caught, and they're the part Malwar has caught since day one — obfuscated commands, credential and memory-file access, exfiltration to C2, all mapped to IOCs in the threat-intel layer. Same engine that attributed ClawHavoc back in April. Nothing new required.
Why the incumbents miss this¶
Signature scanning asks one question: does this file contain known-bad code? For money-radar and letssendit, the honest answer is no. There is no code. The malice lives in plain-language instructions that only the AI reads and acts on — and, as one security engineer told Dark Reading, "we can't rely on (only) static checks to infer if the skill contains malicious intent."
So Malwar doesn't only look for malware. Across 29 detection rules it looks for what the skill is telling the agent to do — exfiltrate memory files, install persistence, route money, pump a token, or pad itself past a scanner. Rule engine plus threat intel runs offline in under 50ms; the LLM layer handles the long tail. On our reconstruction of all three novel skills: 0 false negatives, 0 false positives.
Fair caveat, stated plainly: these five skills were reported by Unit 42 and taken down before we could scan them live. What you see above is Malwar run against faithful reconstructions of each published technique — detection engineering, not a live catch. The point isn't "we found them first." The point is that the techniques are now covered, and the next skill that uses them won't need to be famous first.
Catching the next one while it's still live¶
ClawHavoc reused one C2 IP across 335 skills and nobody noticed for three days. The next campaign won't be that sloppy. So Malwar now watches the registry continuously:
Every day it snapshots the whole registry, re-scans it, and diffs: what's newly published, what quietly changed under the same version number, what was clean yesterday and is flagged today. New threats surface as a diff, not as a headline three days later.
